Lecturer in Theatre
My research examines the cultural politics of contemporary European performance. I am particularly interested in theatre’s relation to neoliberalism and political economy, as well as how issues of affect and spectatorship shape artists and playwrights’ engagement with our present socio-historical moment. Further interests include postdramatic theatre, performance philosophy, and feminist performance.
My recent published work has explored the act of abstracting as an affective process that manifests formally in British new writing (specifically the plays of debbie tucker green and Anders Lustgarten), and the feminist politics of performance work by Canadian electro-pop band Purity Ring. My work has been published in Performance Research, Contemporary Theatre Review, Theatre Research International, and Theatre Journal.
My current research follows two main strands: the Queer Feminist Gothic in contemporary performance, and the postcolonial politics of performances of the package holiday in the 1970s.

My teaching always integrates theory and practice and is rooted in principles and practices of inclusivity. I have taught widely across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and have designed modules exploring gender and sexuality in contemporary performance and the politics of postcolonial nationhood.
